Excel's T function - What does it do?

Excel's T function returns a text value if the cell contains text and a "" (empty text) if the cell does not contain text.

If cell A1 contains Michael, then:

=T(A1) returns Michael

If cell A1 contains 247 (formatted as a number) then:

=T(A1) returns "".
