Excel's REPLACE function - What does it do?

Excel's REPLACE function allows you to replace part of a text string with another text string.

If cell A1 contains Michael Gurner and Cell B1 contains Mike, then:

=REPLACE(A1,1,7,B1)

Would return Mike Gurner.
